Position: Staff Development and Wound Nurse (RN)

Shift: 7am-3:30pm, 4 Days/ Week (Days can be discussed)

Starting Pay: $43 - $48/hour, based on years of Licensure

Job Summary

This position is a RN/LPN who is responsible for Staff Development and Wound Nurse Duties in accordance with established policies and procedures of the community. The “SDW” RN works cohesively with the Director of Nursing Services and Nursing Staff to educate and orient new staff upon hire, ensure compliance and completion of annual trainings, and complete resident wound rounds and wound tracking.

Essential Job Duties

  • Observe the skin of all residents within 48 hours of admission. Ensure the skin observations on admission are accurate and all appropriate treatments and devices are in place. Ensure all notifications have been conducted and notify DON of any resident’s admitted with wounds, type and stage with a tracking log.
  • Weekly observations of all wounds with assessments for healing, pain, infection, effectiveness of treatment, and compliance with care plan. In addition, document all wounds using appropriate forms
  • Wound nurse is responsible for the completion and accuracy of documentation and all communication to family and physicians related to wound development or concern.
  • Ensure that all wounds have a care plan and entry to manage/heal and prevent further breakdown.
  • Ensure that physicians, families, and dieticians are notified of all residents admitted with a wound or any wound that develops. Notify DON/ Doctor of any worsening wound, ensuring all treatment documentations are thoroughly completed.
  • Complete skin check audits each week for licensed nurses and C.N.A’s.
  • Complete dressing change audits weekly.
  • Plan, develop, direct, evaluate, and coordinate educational and on the job training programs.
  • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs.
  • Develop, evaluate and control the quality of in-service educational programs in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Secure, develop and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc. pertinent to in-service educational programs
  • Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, attendance and subject records, etc.
  • Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required in education.
  • Assist department directors in obtaining and scheduling speakers to present in-service training programs
  • Develop and implement a quality assurance program for in-service training.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Registered nurse with a current CT license is required.
  • 2+ years clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care facility or related facility is required.
  • Ability to work closely and communicate clearly, professionally, and frequently with the DON, Facility Scheduler, Residents, Resident Families, Doctors, HR, Staff, and New Employees is required.
  • Familiarity with DPH and SNF regulations (regarding resident care, staff education, staff certification requirements, care documentation), and the ability to work with the Administrator and DON to monitor and understand relevant regulations, translating them into actionable goals for the betterment of the facility is highly desired.
  • Working knowledge on staff education practices, general educating techniques, skills fairs, and proven ability to monitor and prioritize completion percentages and/or delinquent completions is preferred.
  • Ability to stay up-to-date on State and Federal regulation changes regarding resident care, wound care, treatment documentation, and staff “continuing education” training is required.
  • An Ideal Candidate: If you're an organized, persuasive, motivated, and patient RN who is skilled at coordinating, documenting, educating, and ensuring regulatory compliance, we'd love to meet you!! Ideal candidates for this position are technologically savvy with a strong attention to detail, appreciation of self-auditing, and very comfortable with Microsoft Software's (excel, word), Microsoft Calendar, PCC, etc. Candidates must be able to legibly complete and read care documents and doctor's orders, work cohesively with the facility physician, co-workers, residents, supervisors, and resident families, create, organize, and maintain employee training binders, training transcripts, new-hire packets, and training audits. Candidates for this position must be able to manage a large number of quickly moving parts, coordinate functions between multiple people, departments, or outside resources, and remain flexible and accommodating in some areas while sticking to a rigid schedule in others.
